Marriage is a sacred bond built on companionship, trust, dignity, and shared
responsibility. It provides emotional security, social recognition, and the foundation
for building a family. While marriage is a natural life milestone for many, for
Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), it often remains a distant dream due to stigma,
fear, financial barriers, and lack of supportive platforms.
At Ashraya Zilla Vikalangula Samakya (AZVS), we believe that every individual —
regardless of disability — has the right to love, marry, and lead a dignified family life.
Through our Marriage Mela & Support Program, AZVS goes beyond matchmaking.
We provide end-to-end support to ensure that marriages are built on understanding,
security, and long-term stability.
Before finalizing any alliance, AZVS ensures verification of personal and family
background, mutual consent of both bride and groom, compatibility discussions,
family counselling and agreement, and transparent communication between both sides.
Our goal is to ensure safe, respectful, and informed marriages.
Understanding that financial challenges are a major barrier, AZVS takes responsibility
for organizing and supporting the wedding ceremony. The organization provides complete
marriage arrangements, wedding ceremony expenses, traditional rituals and arrangements,
Mangalasutra (sacred wedding chain), and essential support for conducting the marriage
with dignity. For many couples, what once seemed impossible becomes a beautiful
reality — fully supported by AZVS.
Many PwDs experience fear, hesitation, or lack of awareness about married life due to
societal attitudes. AZVS conducts pre-marital counselling sessions, emotional readiness
discussions, guidance on mutual respect and shared responsibilities, confidence-building
sessions, and family orientation programs. This ensures that couples enter marriage with
clarity, confidence, and emotional preparedness.
Our support does not end with the wedding. AZVS conducts formal post-marriage
follow-up visits, periodic well-being assessments, family mediation if needed,
ongoing counselling support, and guidance for resolving misunderstandings. If couples
require additional counselling or support at any stage, the organization provides
timely intervention to strengthen relationships and ensure stability.
As of now, 30+ marriages have been successfully facilitated by AZVS.
Today, these couples are happily leading their family lives, contributing to society,
and proving that disability is never a barrier to love or partnership. This initiative
breaks social stigma around disability and marriage, promotes equality and acceptance,
strengthens emotional inclusion, builds confident families, and protects the rights
and dignity of PwDs.
AZVS is committed to building a society where Persons with Disabilities are respected
as equal partners in marriage, families support inclusive unions, financial barriers
do not stop dreams, and marriage becomes a source of strength, not fear.
"Marriage is not a privilege for a few — it is a right for all."
With support, dignity, and trust, every dream of family life can become reality.
